Acoustic remediation is a multidisciplinary subject that implies on the one hand management policies to be implemented through administrative and planning measures by municipalities or infrastructure managers, and on the other hand planning of targeted structural acoustic remediation measures.

Framework Law 447/95 places the responsibility for defining the procedures and criteria for the preparation and adoption by municipalities and companies of noise remediation plans and plans for the containment and abatement of noise from transport infrastructures on the Regions.

The acoustic remediation involves various levels of action, ranging from knowledge of the noise levels of the territory, and therefore with the performance of environmental phonometric campaigns, to knowledge of the receptors concerned through both physical-geometric surveys and their acoustic characteristics, to the development of forecast simulations and the definition and design of remediation measures.
